Eric Adams tells illegal immigrants to stay out of his sanctuary city
Opinion by Zachary Faria, Washington Examiner, 7/20/23
he sanctimonious “sanctuary city” posture of New York City Mayor Eric Adams has finally come fully crashing down, as Adams is now telling illegal immigrants that his city is terrible and they should go somewhere else.
Adams admitted that the city had been brought to its knees by just 90,000 illegal immigrants since Texas and other border states began busing them to sanctuary cities. It’s an embarrassing failure, given how many daily and weekly arrivals Adams and other Democrats have expected smaller border towns to deal with for years.
Adams whined that “For more than a year now, New York City has responded to this crisis alone — we need our state and federal partners to step up.”
Turns out that the border crisis is more fun when you can lecture about tolerance and acceptance to poorer border towns without having to put your New York City-sized budget where your mouth is.
Adams is now resorting to handing flyers to illegal immigrants at the southern border telling them just how terrible New York City is to live in. The flyers say that “Housing in NYC is very expensive” and “the cost of food, transportation, and other necessities in NYC is the highest in the United States.”
In order to get out of his promise that New York City “will remain a sanctuary city” under his administration, he is now telling people that he has also failed in making the city more affordable.
Adams has been the most prominent sanctuary city hypocrite exposed by the relocation of illegal immigrants, which included him suing other New York counties to try and dump illegal immigrants on them. Chicago, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Martha’s Vineyard, and the state of California have also been confronted with their sanctuary promises, but no one has so totally surrendered to the crisis and proved the point Republicans were making more than Adams.
The border crisis is untenable for the border towns that have endured hundreds of thousands of arrivals every month. Adams and other Democrats sought to paint those border towns as racist or intolerant for wanting border laws to actually be enforced.
Like Adams, they should all be forced to eat their words as they meekly backtrack by claiming they are overwhelmed and that their cities actually aren’t the sanctuary paradises they claimed to be.
