In the time of Theodoret, the diocese of
Cyrrhus, in Syria, contained eight hundred villages. Of
these, two were inhabited by Arians and Eunomians, and eight
by Marcionites, whom the laborious bishop reconciled to the
Catholic church, (Dupin, Bibliot. Ecclesiastique, tom. iv.
