Your relatives now become snitches, whether they want to be or not. The disturbing part is that a private company is giving your personal information to others to be used at their discretion.
I would say there is an inherent copyright in dna, and when used outside the scope of intent there should be a breach of such as the source can only be derived from one place.
It would be nice to see a lawsuit against these companies that are disclosing private information in such a way where they become liable for doing so.
They probably have a service agreement that protects them. Part of the protection is to be an anonymous source of information to the police. Notice the police didn’t specify exactly what genealogy service was their informant
