NOTES:
  1. The Purpose for this page:  We tell you in many places on this site and in our Great IRS Hoax book that you should verify everything we say for yourself so that:
1.1  You won't be easily intimidated by your covetous and unscrupulous government opponent.
1.2  You can have a personal knowledge and belief that what we are saying is true.
  2. However, you can't do this unless you know where to obtain and read the Constitution, cases, statutes, regulations as a legal researcher.  The purpose of this article is to show you where to obtain various legal references and authorities so that you can verify our cites for yourself.
  3. Authorities on why everyone should read and learn and know the law.

“One who turns his ear from hearing the law [God's law or man's law], even his prayer is an abomination.”
    [Prov. 28:9, Bible, NKJV]

"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
    [Joshua 1:8-9, Bible, NKJV,
IMPLICATION:  If you aren't reading and trying to obey God's law daily, then you're not doing God's will and you will not prosper]

"Every citizen of the United States is supposed to know the law [God's law and man's law]. . ."
    [Floyd Acceptances, 7 Wall (74 U.S. 169) 666 (1869);
IMPLICATION: Any citizen that does not know and follow the law is a BAD citizen!]

Authorities on why we must PERSONALLY learn, follow, and enforce man’s law and God’s law

  6. If you want most of the above information in a single DVD that you can take on the road with you and read from your laptop in searchable PDF format, we highly recommend:

  8. For a listing of Titles of the United States Code which have been enacted into "positive law", see 1 U.S.C. §204 legislative notes on the Cornell website or 1 U.S.C. 204 on the government websitePDF Click here (OFFSITE LINK) for an important article on why people in states of the Union should know what titles of the U.S. Code are not positive law and not follow those that aren't.
  9. For court cases above, when a four digit number appears below the link, that number is the earliest year for which information is available on court cases.
  10. Our favorite source for legal abbreviations and definitions is Black's Law Dictionary.  We have the Sixth Edition.  Older versions of this book are better than later versions because of a systematic attempt on the part of the legal profession to remove key definitions in order to illegally expand the jurisdiction of both the federal government and the income tax.  See section 6.7 of the Great IRS Hoax for further details on this scandal.  If you want a FREE copy of Black's Law Dictionary, Second Edition, 1910, you can download it from item 5.5 in the table above.
  11. Costs and features of the various online electronic legal research services are as follows:
    Service Phone Plans Database/
    coverage
    Comments
Casetext 833-227-3898 $780/year Click here for coverage Excellent.
    Cornell Legal
    Information Institute (LII)
    NA Free   Excellent.
Court Listener   Free Click here for coverage.
Fastcase   $65/month on one year plan
    $95/month on monthly plan
Click here for coverage. Own database. Based on Louislaw, who they purchased. Includes federal and state annotated statutes. State courts back to 1950.  Federal caselaw back to the beginning.  Federal District Courts cost extra.
Findlaw NA Free   Federal district court cases only go back a couple years.
Google Scholar NA Free State courts back to 1950.  U.S. Supreme Court to 1791.  No shepardizing.
Lawnet 877-452-9638 $595/year Use Fastcase database. State courts back to 1950.  Federal courts back to about 1900.  Equalizer 7.0 custom application does searching.
Lexis Nexis 800-227-4908 Very expensive Statutes include USCS annotated statutes. Lexis+ is their top product. That is what we use and we LOVE it. The most extensive on the web, and you pay a premium for it.
    National Archives and
    Records Administration (NARA)
Free   Federal Register, government records.  Sponsored by U.S. government.
    Vlex 305-961-1617 Free: Basic federal
    Premium: $59/mo (states)
Click here for coverage. Same database as Casemaker but less years. They charge the same price as Casemaker though, so its not a good deal.vLex United States plan has State courts back to 1950. International law of several countries.   Free plan includes all federal. State is subscription. Good for people just starting off.  No Shepardizing. Database derives from Casemaker. Casemaker has more complete coverage. Databases only go back to 1932 for federal.
    West Law (Onepass) 800-762-5272

Basic:  $89/mo. for small law office

Own database. Federal coverage includes USCA annotated statutes.State and federal caselaw back to the beginning.  Keycite and Legislative Surveys are powerful and unique.  Plan includes 1-2 attorneys plus up to 2 paralegals.  The most expensive of all options.
  12. If you want an economical way to subscribe to the more expensive research services listed above, we suggest the following approach:
Many of the above plans allow several attorneys and paralegals on a single account.  Most law offices have surplus accounts or "seats" that they aren't using as part of the "plan" offered by their provider.  Get your phone book and start calling law offices.  Start at the END of the alphabet in the phone book, where the HUNGRIEST lawyers are.  Talk to the lead attorney and make him a business proposition.  Offer to share his cost for the service in exchange for an account.  Since the service can cost him upwards of $300/month, he'll want to defray this cost.  The only way to make it worthwhile for you is if he charges you no more than half his cost for the service.  Offer him between $50/month on up to about $100/month and see if he will "bite".  If he agrees, pay him monthly and have him create an account for you under his law firm.  JUST A THOUGHT.
  13. The Federal Depository Libraries are located at major universities and county law libraries.  They are free but unfortunately, whatever research you want must be photocopied.  If you want to minimize your photocopying expense at these libraries, one good approach we use is to bring along a digital camera with a large memory module and simply take a picture of the pages you want with the camera in high resolution mode.  Make sure you have the flash turned on when you do this so that you get good contrast.  Then bring it home and make an Acrobat file out of the digital images.
  14. For jury instructions, our favorite source is:
    Federal Jury Practice and Instructions
; Devitt, Blackmar, Wolff & O'Malley; Fourth Edition; 1992; West Publishing; Library of Congress Card # 92-060572.
  15. To look up the elements of any legal claim, our favorite source is:
American Jurisprudence Proof of Claims 3d
    .
  16. If you are involved in litigation against the U.S. government, the best source is:
Civil Actions Against the United States, Second Edition
    ; Thomson-West; 2002; ISBN 0-07-0172449-4.
  17. The best source we have found that describes how to research federal tax matters is the following book:
Federal Tax Research: Guide to Materials and Techniques, Fifth Edition
; Gail Levin Richmond; Foundation Press, 1997, Westbury, New York; ISBN 1-56662-457-6.
  18. If you are attempting to obtain documents from the U.S. government under the Freedom of Information Act or the Privacy Act, our favorite references on this subject are:
  19. The first year published for various significant research sources are as follows:
18.1  U.S. Codes: 1926.  Before that, it was the Statutes at large only.
18.2  Code of Federal Regulations: 1938.
  20. For additional Legal Research Sources, consult: Justia
  21. If you are looking for the absolute best electronic reference tools for studying Biblical law and doctrine, see:
20.1  Faithlife makes the Logos Bible Software in several editions.  The top of the line version is the Scholar's Library Gold Edition.  This is the one we have and it is VERY good.
20.2  Laws of the Bible, Form #13.001, by SEDM
20.3  The Institutes of Biblical Law, by Rousas John Rushdoony. A three volume set. This is our favorite work.
20.4  Spirituality Topic Page, Section 7: Ecclesiastical Courts and Biblical Law, by Family Guardian.
  22. If you want a good reference on how to apply the laws of several competing or conflicting jurisdictions to a specific case, we highly recommend the following book:
Conflicts in a Nutshell, 3rd Edition, by David Siegel and Patrick J. Borchers, Thomson West, ISBN 0-314-16066-3, 2005.
  23. If you want to know what state law judges think about those who are ignorant of the law and who are NOT following the materials or requirements of members on this website and how they are typically directed to respond to them, please read:
    The Anti Government Movement Guidebook-NCSC
  24. The Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) is copyrighted statutory law which is published by UNIDROIT.
  25. Here is the reason why there are TOO MANY LAWS and why NO MAN could ever possibly either learn or follow even a small percentage of them:

"Did you really think that we want those laws to be observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against - then you'll know that this is not the age for beautiful gestures. We're [a corrupted government] after power and we mean it.  You fellows were pikers, but we know the real trick, and you'd better get wise to it.  There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals.  Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws.  Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens?  What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted - and you create a nation of law-breakers - and then you cash in on guilt.  Now, that's the system, Mr. Rearden, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with."
    [Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand]

"The more corrupt the state, the more numerous the laws."
    [Tacitus, Roman historian 55-117 A.D.]
